Iconic Abstractions is a celebration of Inglewood's iconic architecture sharpened into brushed stainless steel silhouettes. Artist Jody Zellen designed eleven forms based on photographs of the great residential, commercial and civic architecture found in Inglewood, including Randy's Donuts, the Forum, and the Inglewood War Memorial.
Starting with historic photographs, Zellen digitally cut silhouettes and mirrored each form to create abstract, but recognizable, building profiles. Placed on the exterior architectural niches of the Crenshaw-Imperial Library, where they sparkle in the moving sun, the artist is asking viewers to look up and reconsider form. City architecture was an inspiration to this artist and a source of pride to the City. A list of the artist's buildings locations and construction dates is available in this web page image cache and on site at the Library desk.
