ABOUT THE HISTORICAL PHOTOGRAPHS
"We're looking at a curve in Washington Street that for decades was known as Newspaper Row. We're at the corner of Spring Lane, looking north. As many as eight major daily papers, including the Globe, once worked out of offices on or near Washington. All have since moved or gone out of business.

Before the arrival of radio in the 1920s, newspapers were the only place to get fresh news. Huge crowds filled Newspaper Row at times of crisis or major events...
