ABOUT THE HISTORICAL PHOTOGRAPHS
The Warren Tavern is believed to be the oldest extant building in Charlestown. Like much of Charlestown, it suffered a decline in the earlier part of this century, when the neighborhood's population dropped from more than 40,000 in 1900 to fewer than 16,000 in 1970. Since then, Charlestown has come back quickly, however. The revival is dramatized by these photographs of the tavern, the first made in 1971 and the second in 1986.
