About this Tour Stop...

Jean Parker Phifer, NYC architect and author of Public Art New York, reads a selection about Bryant Park, discussing its renovation in the 1990s after its takeover by drug dealers during the 70s and 80s. "Project Facts: "The redesign of Bryant Park pioneered research that showed how design impacts human behavior. The new park is a model for how public places can facilitate human interaction. "The park renovation, completed in 1992, functions as a green roof for an underground portion of the New York Public Library. "A private, non-profit company supplies all the funding for Bryant Park and also manages park maintenance and event programming." Source: http://www.asla.org/sustainablelandscapes/bryantpark.html
