Fraunces Tavern Museum is a museum of early American history and culture. Housed in the building where George Washington said farewell to his officers at the close of the American Revolutionary War, the museum places particular emphasis on the history of the tavern, Lower Manhattan, and the Revolutionary war period. Fraunces Tavern Museum fulfills its mission by preserving and interpreting historic Fraunces Tavern; collecting, preserving, and interpreting artifacts relating to the site and early American and NY History and presenting a variety of exhibitions, publications and public and educational programs. The museum is committed to making its resources and programs available to the public in both a scholarly and entertaining manner. The tavern was reconstructed by William Mersereau between 1904 and 1907.
