Destination Marker #18 - MAPS

About this Tour Stop...

Near this spot once stood the Biltmore Hotel, an art deco tower hotel which hosted elegant balls, backroom political ploys, multi-million dollar oil deals, and a famous bet that resulted in a change of ownership for the legendary Cattleman’s Café. “By our own Bootstraps.” In 1993, citizens voted a special tax for nine Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS) including a downtown arena, the Bricktown Ball Park and Canal, a new library and the Oklahoma River. The resulting $3 billion in public-private investments changed the face of the city.
