"As every veteran subway rider knows--whether actively or intuitively--the approach of a train is preceded by a gust of wind funneling down the track. It's my interest to build and install a series of subway 'wind paddles' that will utilize and make visible these subterranean breezes. This statue is one of two New York public statues that commemorate Horace Greeley. Greeley was a successful newspaper publisher as well as a strong social and political activist. He loudly supported labor unions and the abolition of slavery. His opinions towards Manifest Destiny were obvious in his famous quote, "Go West young man, go West." Both the New York Typographical Union and the Brooklyn Typographical Union commissioned the statue in 1892.

The inscription on the sculpture reads: "A memorial to James Gordon Bennett (1795-1872) Founder of the New York Herald in 1835 and to his son James Gordon Bennett (1841-1918) through whose vision and enterprise The New York Herald became one of the World's Great Newspapers"

Reach New York is located along the platforms of the BMT Broadway line. It consists of a rack hanging from the ceiling of each platform with sensors along the length. Waving your hand in front of a sensor creates a corresponding sound from the rack-- on the other side of the station. People on opposite platforms or opposite ends of the same platform can interact using the instrument; artist Christopher Janney conceived the piece as a way to promote exchange between strangers.

These cast bronze owls on the Herald Square gate posts are based upon the owl that once appeared in the masthead of the New York Herald - whose headquarters were just north of the square.

Morris Adjami's design of the US headquarters for Publicis, the Paris-based communications company, brought together the company’s New York divisions into a single 120,000 square foot facility located on the top four floors of an historic 1909 office building in Manhattan’s Herald Square. The design of the new space triggered an extensive branding exercise. To support its dramatic change to a less formal corporate culture, Publicis wanted a workspace for its 350-person staff that encouraged synergy. The result is a contemporary, open workspace designed to spark creative collaboration while offering flexible expansion space to meet the firm’s future growth requirements.
